The 'Play Create Elevate' Philosophy is that play and creativity are essential in order to 'bounce forward' from stress, anxiety and depression.
When explaining what I do to my young nieces and nephews I talk about the importance of being able to 'bounce forward' rather than bouncing back from difficult challenges such as depression. "Bouncing back" suggests that you will go back to where you were when the challenges occurred. And given it may neither be effective nor desirable to return to that state I focus on "bouncing forward" as a way of handling the challenges life throws at all of us.
So given the 'Play Create Elevate' Philosophy that play and creativity are essential in 'bouncing forward' from stress, anxiety and depression let's take a closer look at Play and Creativity.
Play | Playfulness | Playing
“A little nonsense now and then, is cherished by the wisest men.” ...Roald Dahl | Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator
Adults Playing in Child-Like Ways... An Antidote to Depression
“Life is more fun if you play games.” ...Roald Dahl | My Uncle Oswald
Society's focus on economic rationalism, productivity gains and competitive workplaces has resulted in generation of Australian adults who have forgotten how to play as we were when we were children. The desired outcome of the Play Create Elevate Philosophy's focus on play is to bring back to pure enjoyment of play for the sake of play... games and play range from Pin the Tail on the Donkey to Jacks to Finger Painting and for the more adventurous Twister. Just to name a few.
The aim of these games is to play without winning or losing being a factor. It's about the chance to experience something different that most of us left behind in childhood.
“Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.” ...Tom Robbins
Create | Creativeness | Creativity
Creativity is a great motivator because it makes people interested in what they are doing. Creativity gives hope that there can be a worthwhile idea. Creativity gives the possibility of some sort of achievement to everyone. Creativity makes life more fun and more interesting. ...Edward de Bono
Creativity can be stifled by as many things as it can be inspired by. It requires our purposeful attention and commitment to, focus on and attention to creative pursuits. It doesn't matter how you express your creativity, it only matters that you do... something creative.
It might be painting, or singing, or playing an instrument. It might be dancing, calligraphy, sculpting, paper-making or composing. It might be cartooning or acting, writing or comedy. It might be felting, or finger painting, knitting or telling your children or grandchildren bed-time stories that you have created yourself. And these are just a few suggestions and yet within each of these ideas there are yet other worlds of variation.
When it comes to creativity, the Nike rule applies..."Just Do It!"
"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep." ...Scott Adams
